Ms. Viji Dhayanathan is an experienced community advocate and has worked extensively for people with a disability from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds as well as for Tamil refugees and asylum seekers from Sri Lanka and other parts of the world.
As a passionate advocate for the vulnerable and the disadvantaged groups,Viji has successfully helped several people, over the years, to gain their rights and to gain quality of life in Australia. Her compassion for and commitment to refugees and asylum seekers impel her to focus her time and energy on working at the grass roots level.
Viji’s areas of interest and work include women’s empowerment, human rights advocacy, community development, and addressing family violence education.
Viji is currently an dynamic member of the Tamil Women’s Development Group, which works towards empowerment of Tamil women, runs a South Asian women’s empowerment group, active in the NSW Pink Sari Project, a project which aims to raise awareness and educate the South Asian community about breast cancer, and a host of other project activities. Viji also works as a Bi-lingual Educator at Refugee Health Service.
