Robin de Crespigny

Robin de Crespigny is a Sydney film-maker, writer, producer, director and a former Directing Lecturer at AFTRS Film School. While living in New York she discovered a passion for film-making and returned to set up her own production company.

In 2008 Robin began a screenplay about an Iraqi refugee who became a people smuggler to save his family. Three years of research and wrestling with the epic breadth of his journey led to the publication of The People Smuggler which became 2012’s highest selling Australian book in the Sydney Writer’s Festival, won Best Non-Fiction Queensland Literary Award, Human Rights Award for Literature, and Walkley Book Awards finalist.

Robin founded Citizens for Change on Asylum Seekers and is now adapting The People Smuggler to a feature film.
