My name is Prudence Melom- founder of E-raced. I’m originally from Chad but have been leaving in Australia since 2007. Before coming to Australia, my family and I lived in a refugee camp in Benin for seven years.
I now use the story of the struggle of my family while escaping conflict in my home country of Chad to promote harmony and respect in regional Australia. E-raced is about erasing racism through storytelling. It is a project I founded after winning the ABC Heywire competition in Canberra 2014.
Our aim is to educate young people on the issue of refugees and migrants by sharing real stories and experiences. I’m a testimony of what great opportunities Australia provides for refugees like myself. I was lucky to be listed under 2015 triple JJJ’s 25 under 25 hit list, 2015 Young Human rights award, 2015 and 2016 African Australian regional champion Awards. I’m among six people selected by the Queensland premier to sit on a new social cohesion committee in QLD. I’m an advocate for racial equality in Australia and strongly believe that behind each person there is a great story.
