Australian law in orientation
This is a kit for Victorian educators, teachers and community workers. It is aimed at people who have been in Australia for less than six months, have low or no English, and very basic legal literacy. It includes Powerpoint presentations and speakers’ notes.
What’s the law?
This is a kit about common legal problems that people newly arrived to Australia may encounter. You can use this to introduce Australian law for new arrivals.
The kit can be used by teachers, educators and community workers who work with migrants and refugees. It is designed to be used in English classes, but it can easily be used in other community education settings.
The kit includes 14 simple English stories, based on real life experiences, to help new arrivals:
- get simple information about common legal issues
- recognise and avoid legal problems
- know where to get free legal help if they need it
- build their English language skills.
