The Refugee Council of Australia has signed on to a statement alongside fellow civil society organisations from around the world to highlight the dire situation facing Rohingya Muslims and other minorities in Myanmar.
On 30 September, the United Nations General Assembly convened a high-level conference on this issue, with the UN citing “deep concern over the continued violence, violations and abuses of human rights against and forced displacement of Rohingya Muslims and other minorities”.
Australia’s delegation to the conference included Noor Azizah, Rohingya woman and 2024 NSW Young Woman of the Year, who was also part of RCOA’s visit to Cox’s Bazar earlier this year.
