Your Voice: Autumn 2026 Newsletter

autmn nl portraitIt is a challenging time for refugees, people seeking asylum and those of us who support them. In this issue of Your Voice, we share how you’re helping us protect and build on Australia’s legacy as a place of refuge for those fleeing war and persecution.

Last month, we helped launch the newly reconvened Parliamentary Friends of Refugees Group, bringing together MPs and Senators from across the political spectrum. The group is a direct result of our advocacy in Parliament, and it’s thanks to your ongoing support that we’ve remained a trusted organisation.

We also celebrated Australia’s welcome of a million refugees since 1947, a milestone reached at the end of 2025. During our Annual General Meeting last November, we introduced and heard from three of those million refugees. They shared their journeys as part of Australia’s Untold Stories, a series of oral histories by refugees who’ve been resettled in Australia over the last eight decades.

In December 2025, we joined governments, civil society organisations, private sector leaders and refugee representatives for the Global Refugee Forum Progress Review in Geneva, Switzerland. Your support enabled us to be part of the Australian delegation to this critical review, ensuring refugee voices were heard in global decision making.

As we brace ourselves for more challenges, both globally and here at home, knowing that you share our belief in an Australia that is fairer, kinder and more welcoming to refugees fills us with hope.

The road is challenging, but we are grateful that you continue to walk it with us.
