This audit of educational pathways for refugee students into higher education was developed by the University of Newcastle as part of the (Re)claiming social capital: Improving language and cultural pathways for refugee students into Australian higher education project, in partnership with Curtin and Macquarie Universities, and funded by the Commonwealth Department of Education and Training.
This national desktop and telephone search of available pathways was conducted over 2015-16 and finalised in late 2016. Key search terms included: refugee, humanitarian entrant, university, higher education, entry, access, education, support, pathway, scholarship + state/territory.
Whilst initially the audit was designed to capture pathways between VET and higher education, it was expanded to include school and community sectors due to the literature and data indicating fluidity between informal and formal learning spaces.
It is important to know that audit is partial and a snapshot in time. It was last reviewed by the Refugee Council of Australia in November 2017.
