ABOUT FRANKSTON CITY
Frankston City is located on the eastern shores of Port Phillip Bay, covering an area of 131 square kilometres approximately 40 kilometres south of Melbourne and is within metropolitan Melbourne.
Frankston City is recognised for its pristine coastline, natural reserves, vibrant lifestyle, diverse communities, growing business, arts, education and health sectors. For thousands of years before Frankston City became known by its current name, the Bunurong people knew it as Monmar, a sacred place. The name of this Indigenous Australian tribe comes from “Boon wurrung”, meaning “coast people”.
POPULATION STATISTICS
The city is currently home to an estimated 142,826 residents, which is expected to grow to 162,673 by 2041.
In 2021 there were 29,797 people living in Frankston City who were born overseas. Most overseas-born residents are from the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and India, along with residents from more than 100 other countries. In 2021, 15,739 (11.3%) people used a language other than English at home

CULTURALLY AND LINQUISTICALLY DIVERSE (CALD) NETWORK
Council supports a CALD network made up of community members and organisational representatives who are passionate to showcase, celebrate, engage, share and learn together; improving relationships across Frankston City to create a sense of belonging for all. The Network helps celebrate Harmony week and Multicultural Diversity Celebration Days.
Council and the CALD Network have initiated Multicultural Meet and Greets. These are community networking events whose purpose is to:
• Increase connection between multicultural people living and working in Frankston City.
• Connect multicultural people to Council services, local support services, business and community grants, training and volunteering opportunities and more!
• Provide an informal opportunity for people to get together, make friends and connections.

GRANDMOTHER’S FOR REFUGEES
Grandmothers for Refugees is a non-political, grass-roots advocacy and community group which supports people seeking asylum in Australia.
The groups strives for a fair, compassionate and inclusive approach to refugee policy that encompasses the following key principles:
• End mandatory detention
• Permanent protection
• Comprehensive support
• Family reunification
The Dunkley group of Grandmother’s For Refugees was formed in 2021, and is always seeking new members. They meet on the first Friday of each month at the Frankston Library. To find out more go to www.grandmothersforrefugees.org
