The Bhutanese community in Australia and the strength of refugee community associations

At the Refugee Communities Advocacy Network conference in Melbourne on 28 May 2016, Devi Ghimire (President, Bhutanese Community in Australia) gave a powerful presentation outlining the work of the Bhutanese Community in Australia.

The presentation looked at the contributions the Bhutanese community have made in Australia, and the issues the community faces in settlement. Devi also put forward proposals to address these issues. These included looking at the possibility of community-led labor hire businesses and the importance of funding for refugee community associations.

This presentation highlights the strength of refugee communities, as recognised in RCOA’s report The Strength Within.
