The 48th Parliament has the power to change lives
In late 2025, Australia will welcome our one millionth refugee since 1947. For decades, Australia’s resettlement program has been supported by successive governments to transform the nation, enabling millions of modern Australians to contribute because they, their parents or grandparents were able to shape new lives free from war and persecution.
Today, sensible and constructive responses to forced displacement are needed more than ever. The 48th Parliament of Australia has the opportunity to build on this 80-year legacy. By continuing to lead in refugee resettlement and support incremental improvements to how refugees are treated where they first seek protection, Australia can contribute to providing safe alternatives to forcibly displaced people in our region and beyond.
