REFUGEE WEEK 2007 - June 17-23
Theme: The Voices of Young Refugees

Refugee Week 2007 was held from Sunday, June 17 to Saturday, June 23, to coincide with World Refugee Day (June 20).
The Refugee Council of Australia has worked with agencies across Australia to promote Refugee Week in 2007. This year’s theme was “The Voices of Young Refugees" which focused attention on the contribution, ideas and concerns of refugee children, teenagers and young adults. Refugee Week has been celebrated in Australia since 1986, to acknowledge the amazing contributions that refugees make to Australian society and draw attention to international refugee concerns. This year, many great events happened all over Australia.

Our sponsors and supporters
Major sponsors for Refugee Week were Victorian Multicultural Commission and AMES Victoria. The Refugee Council is also indebted to other organisations offering financial and in-kind support, including UNHCR (through its Canberra office), NSW Community Relations Commission, Multicultural Arts Victoria, ACL, Australian National Maritime Museum and Toby's Estate Coffee and Tea.

We would also like to thank and acknowledge The Australian Theatre for Young People for their generous donation of the space we used for the NSW Launch of Refugee Week 2007. Located next to the harbour at Walsh Bay the ATYP's Studio 1 is a dynamic performance and rehearsal space. ATYP are actively involved in outreach programs taking their workshops to remote and regional Australia as well as outer suburbs of Sydney. We are grateful for this partnership allowing us to showcase the ATYP venue and to celebrate the start of Refugee Week 2007 in a central Sydney location.
