This information is provided by the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), a legal organisation that helps refugees in Melbourne. It was published in December 2014.

The ‘fast track’ process is a new process used by the Australian Government to determine if a person is a refugee. It applies only to those who arrived in Australia by boat between 13 August 2012 and 31 December 2013.

This fact sheet is for community workers and service providers who would like to know more about:

  • how to help a person seeking asylum to be considered for legal assistance under the government-funded Primary Application Information Service (PAIS), and
  • how to refer a person seeking asylum to get legal assistance from the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) in Victoria.
